Hi,
I don't speak Spanish I'm Portuguese, and to try avoiding misspelling using a translator I decide to type in English.

I've been searching the forum here and found several comments on the chipset NVIDIA MCP67MV-A2.
However, I found nothing that explains to me properly.
What is happening is that I have done several reflows to many motherboards ACER 5520 model as the subject indicates, but I have a very low success rate.
The last time I got a notebook that doing a little pressure on the chipset worked, once I reball it stopped working.

I've read that this chipset is particularly sensitive to temperature, but even during the peak reflow temperatures that I practice is 220 º C so it should not corrupt.
Yet something ridiculous happened to me, once already have removed the chip and this to be about 5cm from the motherboard already without any source of heat around, it made a pop sound but nothing visibly as changed as expected in the case the common problem of popcorning.

I am using the pre-heater to reach 95 ° C and then use the upper-heater in reflow up to 120 ° C, then I change the pre-heater to reflow to reach 208 º C and down again to pre-heater.
When it gets to 218 º c is already possible to move the chip slightly, then await the 220 º c and pick it up.

Then "wash" the pads with tin lead and clean again, then do the same profile(I do it manualy) for reball resolder but with a maximum of 205 degrees C.

I have the crystals and other components protected with aluminum foil and the top of the chip with Kapton, but the test, it keeps the same problem.
Power LED on and off repeatedly.

Wonder what's wrong? The chip was killed at a "so low" temperature ? Was it the near motherboard components (crystal, capacitors ...)

How can it be tested?

Update:
Looks like after some tests the chips are not damaged.
Apparently the PCB warping seems very little but enough that I assume is the cause of failure in reballing because after a little pressure on the PCB it boots correctly until I release it again.

Anyone having problems reballing this motherboard?
Any advices?

Hi again.
I wonder if some one else have already reworked this ACER motherboard because it looks like the PCB deformation its not the only problem.

I've order a structure made in CNC to avoid any measure problems and now the motherboards are correctly mounted the reball still not solve the problem.
I think theres some other common issue at this motherboard.

Can anyone help?

If some one don't understand this, please just say something and I can try to explain or type the text in Portuguese because i'm afraid typing in Spanish may make me some translation mistakes.

The motherboard I'm reworking DOESN'T HAVE external graphics on contrary of what the photo shows.

Parece que después de algunas pruebas de los chips no están dañados.
Al parecer, la deformación PCB parece muy poco pero lo suficiente que asumo es la causa del fracaso en reballing porque después de un poco de presión en el PCB, que arranca correctamente hasta que lo vuelva a soltar.

Cualquier persona que tenga problemas reballing esta placa base?
Cualquier consejos?

Me pregunto si alguien más ya han reelaborado esta placa ACER porque se parece a la deformación PCB este no es el único problema.

He pedido una estructura hecha en CNC para evitar problemas medida y ahora las placas base están correctamente montado el Reball aún no resuelve el problema.
Creo theres un problema común a otros esta placa base.

La placa madre que estoy reelaboración NO TIENE gráfica externa en contrario de lo que muestra la foto.

La solución resultó ser MAXIM que está cerca del MCP fue dañada PCB en todo lo que tenía que arreglar porque hay una anomalía en la división para que la tensión de la falta de MCP BGA causando los componentes MAXIM o por la quema de insistencia de que el usuario intenta conectar la computadora portátil. Y si la batería no se elimina de la computadora portátil, sino que también no se apaga hasta que se descarga, causando el mismo problema.

Well, this type of motherboard and chip are quite not easy to repair because of some main causes.
The main problem will be the chip itself, most because the common nVIDIA "design bug" especially the date coded previous to 2009.
The difficulty of reworking this chips is not because the size or the 0,5mm BGA as many says. Its more the kind of machine you use to rework it and the operator skills/experience to deal with most PCBs. Most rework machines have a good support platform for amorphous PCBs which prevent warp that may damage the motherboard and preclude a good "landing" of all the balls in each individual pad.

Now about the text translated, well the most common issue with this chip is solved with a reball(if done properly and the chip is not faulty/bug).
I've repair more than one hundred of this motherboards and most have got to this kind of fault due to the same problem.

To start, the BGA get faulty or the nvidia bug happen.
Reason? We all know here right!? - 99,9% overheating from user fault or lack of knowledge that should be passed by the laptop seller or manufacture. Most of this information is on the user manual but the user isn't known about the common dust that may get in the cooler.

Then if lucky the "snowball" doesn't roll... It happens that if the MCP got BGA or bug problem you won't be able to turn it off unless you take the battery of or it run out of charge.
If not, as we know, the laptop start to reboot/loop only lighting the power button LED. If you disassemble the laptop and analyse this reboot/loop you'll notice the CPU gets too hot for the time its "ON" in this loop.
What happens is that the fault in MCP makes the laptop reboot constantly before POST and the hardware is constantly get the start request and check.
If you let it happen for too long (a full battery is more than enough) you'll have the "snowball" sequence.
MCP got bad BGA or bug, then the repeated reboot starts, then the MAXIM near the MCP67MV-A2 starts to handle more current than usual that should be delivered to MCP, then the AMD CPU overheat and will probably got faulty too as the MAXIM.
And that's why most reworkers do the MCP reball and the problem persists.
If your sure the reball was flawless and none of the components around got damage during rework(including MCP, crystals, etc) you should check using a known working AMD CPU and check the MAXIM 8744E.

so what you are saying is basically that the problem when reballing this board is the PCB warping, aside the Maxim and cpu chain reaction of course. I use a vanilla Achi IR6000 and i've yet to notice PCB warping but it's not like i'm paying very close attention to it. I have the same problem with a board exactly the same, it loops turning on and off and i have to remove the battery to make it stop. what would you recommend to do first?
